The city of Plovdiv, is the 2nd largest city in Bulgaria after Sofia, but from the northern region perspective, it is the largest and considered to be the most important city. Approximately 340,000 people live in Plovdiv, and is said to be one of the oldest cities in Europe. Following the Balkan War and World War I, Plovdiv became one of the places where thousands of war refugees go to and many of them, since then, have settled here.
