What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.

Are there any additional costs?

I phoned to change the

I phoned to change the time for pick up and return of the car. It was not a good experience. I was told I could not do it and encouraged to book an up grade. I wanted to change my booking and return by 4 hours from 10.00am to 2.oo pm. I was told it was not possible to change it. I was told a car would not be available. I said I would take the risk and ended up in cancelling my booking and then re booking on line. Not helpful. I almost did not use your site to re book.

We booked a Yaris or

We booked a Yaris or similar, but on arrival were allocated a larger Hyundai Accent which was too large for my wife to drive. ECCR at Hobart apparently have very few Yaris-sized cars. Fortunately we were going to be passing nearby a few days later so were able to substitute the Accent for a smaller Kia Rio for the rest of our trip, but Carrentals need to check more carefully what sort of cars are actually available - size does matter, and a bigger car than you've booked isn't necessarily acceptable to all customers.

Airlie Beach, popularly known as the gateway to one of the world's seven wonders, 'The Great Barrier Reef', and also the 'Whitsunday Islands' is located on the coast of Queensland, approximately 1180 km's north of Brisbane and 630km's south of tropical Cairns.

The Whitsundays are a group of islands off the coast of Queensland, numbering about 70 in total. The majority of tourists travel along the coast but few venture by air to Whitsunday Airport which is only a small 5km's from Airlie Beach. About a 37km drive from Airlie Beach is 'Proserpine Whitsunday Coast Airport'. The Whitsundays even have their own airport, called Hamilton Island Airport so getting around the area is easy.

Airlie Beach Airport is well serviced, with many bus and ferry shuttle's. You can also get buses or coaches from nearby train stations to the airports, and even a train from the capital of Queensland, Brisbane.

While visiting Airlie Beach make sure you plan to visit the barrier reef. Take a trip of a glass bottom boat which run regulary from the many docks in the area. They offer a spectacular view of the coral and sea life that lies beneath. Great fun for the family especially! Or, if you're into snorkelling, come face to face with the tropical underwater wildlife. There's so much to do and see in and near to Airlie Beach that its become one of the most visited places in Eastern Australia. Conway National Park is another great day out.
