Son Xoriguer lies at the southwest end of Minorca, about 50kms from the airport. If travelling with a young child who requires a car seat, it is recommended that a taxi or hire car is booked in advance so that it is fitted for your arrival.

The resort has a relaxing, sheltered, sandy beach and for the more energetic, the water sports centre at Playa Son Xoriguer, which offers windsurfing, water skiing, parasailing, sea canoe trips plus sailing and motorboat hire. The crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea encourage snorkelling and scuba diving.

There are footpaths along the coast and gentle strolls into the countryside away from the bustle of the more crowded amenities. This would make an ideal and relaxing way to explore the real way of life in this part of Menorca.

The larger resort of Cala en Bosch, just 1km away, has a harbour and a number of pubs, restaurants and pizzerias. It also has an English-speaking doctor and a pharmacy.

Ciudadella, the former capital, is well worth a visit for its history and shops. It has a series of imposing buildings including the cathedral. The weekly morning market provides local colour, as does the harbour, with its boats, quayside bars and restaurants.

During the summer season, pony-trotting races are held nearby and in June there is a three-day horse festival in honour of St Joan.
