Car Hire Pitea - Mini guide to Pitea
Pitea is a pleasant enough town on the Bay of Bothnia right up in the northeast of the country. Like most typical Swedish towns it has a theme of water, with the sea to the east and lakes and rivers almost all around. Exploring with car rental in Pitea is fun.
The town centre is located on a virtual isthmus known as Haggholmen, which, due to the rising land in northern Sweden, is now part of the mainland. The Pitea archipelago is the main attraction up here, which is incidentally best visited in the summer due to the high latitude.
It is, however, also popular in the winter with nearby cross-country skiing and winter bathing. With cheap car hire in Pitea you can drive out to the city beach in the summer, where there is a resort, leading to it being titled ‘the Riviera of Norrbotten’. There is also a spa and golf course out here. In town, be sure to check out the drive-thru snow-mobilers restaurant.
With car hire in Pitea you can head north along the coast towards the town of Lulea where the scenery is staggering. Keep heading around the coast towards the town of Kalix and then Tornio, which lies on the Finnish border. Heading south from Pitea is Skelleftea, which is known as the Goldtown.
There is also some fantastic driving to be had inland with car rental in Pitea, although this is best attempted in the summer when the roads are clear of snow and ice.
