An interesting thing about the MGM Grand is that at the intersection of Tropicana and Las Vegas Boulevard, pedestrians are not allowed to cross at street level. The MGM Grand is linked with the New York and the Tropicana by overhead pedestrian bridges.
This MGM Grand Hotel began to be built in 1990 on the site of the old Marina Hotel. The building was completed in 1993. The MGM was known then for its extensive Wizard of Oz theme. There were tons of memorabilia from the movie there as well as the Oz Casino and Emerald City. The theme was changed when the hotel went through a complete remodel in 1996.
