Hannover is a modern city with much to offer visitors. It boasts important cultural centres, excellent shopping facilities, and remarkable events of national, as well as international standard, particularly its trade fairs.
The Bahnhofstrasse, leading from the Central Station into the heart of the city is a pedestrians only shopping street, joining with the Kropcke, Hannovers central square.
Left of the Steintor is the impressive Anzeiger Hochhaus, and around the corner lies the Altstadt (old city) with interesting small shops, pubs and restaurants.
The Marktkirche is the largest of the three churches in the old city, standing next to the old town hall. The nearby Market Hall offers a great variety of international delicacies.
The Niedersachsen Landesmuseum contains a selection of paintings and sculptures spanning nine centuries, as well as interesting archaeological, ethnological and natural history exhibits.
Ancient Egyptian, Roman and Greek art can be seen in the Kestner Museum, which also holds an impressive collection of Art Deco from all over Europe.
The baroque garden and park ensemble of Herrenhausen are the largest gardens of this kind in Germany, and even though the palace has disappeared it's still a spectacular sight.
Hannover has a rich and diverse nightlife scene, with a large number of traditional bars, trendy discos and biergartens, where you can have a beer in a pleasant garden setting.
Exploring Hannover by car, you can visit the King Ernst August Monument, Marienburg, Georgstrasse, the Kestner Gesellschaft and Hannovers Zoo.
