Car Hire in Adelaide - Getting to Adelaide
International flights arrive in Adelaide from several world destinations, some fly directly to the city, but often with a Perth or Sydney stopover. It is a long way from Australia's other capitals, so flying is often the best option. Be aware that if youre flying on domestic airlines you will probably make a stopover when coming from Brisbane or Sydney. The Adelaide airport is seven kilometres west of the city.
Bus travel is cheaper than flying, but it is a long haul. Services run to all major destinations. The smaller, meandering buses are often more enjoyable, but most people go with one of the major lines and do the quick-but-dull trip. Buses run to Alice Springs and to regional centres in South Australia. Interstate buses arrive at Central Station, almost smack in the middle of town.
Interstate trains run from Adelaide to Alice Springs, Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney, the terminal is just southwest of the city centre in Keswick.
For motorists, major driving routes run east towards Melbourne and the east coast, west towards Perth and north to Alice Springs. For those with a bit more time there are plenty of country roads to get lost on! Traffic out here isnt much, and the roads are straight, boring but safe.
