During the 1960s it was infamous as the place where biker gangs used to congregate, but the bikers have disappeared and the street is now popular with people of all ages. Beneath the main shopping street of Aalborg is the newly renovated museum, chronicling the excavation and restoration of an 11th century monastery. Opening times vary seasonally so check ahead to ensure your visit won’t be in vain.

There is also an annual carnival hosted in Aalborg, usually taking place on the final weekend of May. The carnival is split into three main events, a Children’s carnival, a ‘Battle of the Bands’ carnival, and the main Carnival event itself. It is a busy time with an influx of over 100,000 people, but is well worth the hustle and bustle. There is entertainment for children as well as live music, all day and long into the night. The Carnival ends with a spectacular firework display, so it really is an event not to be missed!
