Valenciennes is a town situated on the Escaut River in northern France, 124 miles (200 kms) from London and Paris, and 62 miles (100 kms) from Brussels. In December 2003, Valenciennes was chosen as the headquarters of the European Railway Agency, located within walking distance of the railway station.
Valenciennes Rail Station regularly serves direct high speed TGV trains to Paris Gare du Nord (1 train per hour; duration 1 hour, 45 minutes), direct regular TER trains to Lille Flandres (2 trains per hour; duration 30 to 40 minutes), as well as connections to Paris Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport via Lille or possibly Douai (1 train per hour; duration 2 hours).
Visitors from the UK can reach Valenciennes by catching the Eurostar from London’s Waterloo Station to Lille and from there a connecting train to Valenciennes Rail Station. Alternatively, ferry passengers coming from Dover can get to Valenciennes by train from the French seaports of Calais or Boulogne.
