Car Hire Valencia - Mini guide to Valencia
Spain's third-largest city, is a pleasant destination with agreeable weather, plenty of history, and a refreshing atmosphere free of tourist hordes. Its also a great launching point for the nearby Costa Blanca.
Rich in history, dating from Roman times, the centre of Valencia is typified by grand placas (squares) and baroque buildings. The Moors and Visigoths have also left their influences behind on the citys character. One of Valencia's most raved about attractions is the Palacio del Marqués de Dos Aguas, with its extravagantly sculptured facade and interior. The Basílica de la Virgen de los Desamparados is also worth checking out. The Museums are especially good here, including the Museo de Bellas Artes (including works by many of Spains finest painters), Instituto Valenciano Arte Moderno, Museu Taurino, and the modern, futuristic entertainment complex of the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias (arts and sciences). For some respite from historical buildings and endless museums, the city offers several lovely parks and the commendable botanical gardens.
Good views of the city are seen from the tower of the impressive baroque and renaissance styled cathedral.
Home to paella and the Holy Grail, Valencia it also hosts one of Spains biggest spring parties, the festival of Las Fallas including a ritual effigy burning, music and fireworks.
By car you can explore the magnificent Costa de Azahar and Costa Blanca.
