Besides being virtually surrounded by three of the five great lakes, Ontario has some wonderful countryside to explore and is also less than an hour from upstate New York.
Easily the biggest nearby attractions is Niagara falls, one of the worlds greatest. Consisting of the American Falls, small Bridal Veil Falls and beautiful Canadian/Horseshoe Falls, Niagara is best seen from the Canadian side, and the small touristy town of Niagara has a myriad of attractions, hotels and conventions centres. 12 million tourists show up annually to marvel at 750,000 gallons per sec tumbling over this precipice.
Hailed as Canada's premier theme park, Paramount Canada's Wonderland boasts more than 200 attractions, 65 rides, an excellent selection of roller coasters, a 20-acre water park and numerous live performances. Also worthwhile is the African Lion Safari , just an hour away from Toronto.
Centre Island is Toronto's peaceful island getaway, just a short ferry ride from downtown. Strolling biking, or rollerblading, it suits all ages, and even has a children's amusement park.
East Ontario's Algonquin Park is one of Canada's best-loved parks, with a dazzling array of hiking and canoeing options. The lake-dotted semi-wilderness has 1600km of charted canoe routes to explore.
