Car Hire Sydney - Mini guide to Sydney

One of the most beautifully located cities in the world, Sydney is a world class destination –a modern and vibrant city, with many attractions both old and new.

The oldest ‘settled’ point in Australia sits deep in the harbour, and is a tiny suburb now known as the ‘Rocks’, serving as a delightful entertainment precinct adjacent to the busy Circular Quay ferry terminal. It looks out to Sydney harbour bridge and the stylishly world famous Opera House – both unforgettable Australian icons. Also nearby are the delightful botanical gardens.

Sydney has a bustling CBD with a curious mix of modern high-rises and grand old colonial buildings. Not to be missed are Chinatown and Spanish town. Adjacent is the recently re-developed Darling harbor – a waterfront entertainment complex that comes alive every night with the Chinese garden and the highly recommended Sydney aquarium.

For those interested in Sydney’s nightlife, Kings Cross is a cocktail of strip joints and seedy bars, while in contrast the nearby Victorian suburbs of Paddington and Darlinghurst are charming terraced streets perfect for a pleasant evening’s stroll.

On the eastern shoreline are the popular beaches of Bondi and Coogee, while across the harbour is Taronga Zoo and the lovely upmarket seaside suburb of Manly. Up-river is Homebush bay, site of the Olympic village.

The major suburbs in Sydney are: Bankstown, Baulkham Hills, Bondi, Chatswood, Fairfield, Hornsby, North Sydney, Manly, Parramatta and Sutherland.
