Car Hire in Southampton - Getting to Southampton
Southampton Airport is northwest of the city off Junction 5 of the M27 motorway and is clearly signposted from both directions. Journey time from Southampton is around 15-20 minutes.
The airport is just over 10 miles from Winchester, 20 from Portsmouth and 70 miles from London. Up to three trains each hour serve the airport from London Waterloo station. Journey time is around an hour. There is a half hourly bus service from central Southampton to the airport.
It is a seven-minute journey from the city to Southampton train station; from here connections to all major UK cities can easily be obtained. Other connecting stations include Weymouth, Poole, Bournemouth, Fareham, Portsmouth, Reading, Oxford, Coventry and Birmingham.
The mainline from London to Southampton Central train station runs out of London Waterloo. This is the same station housing the Eurostar international terminal so overland travel from Brussels, Lille or Paris via the Channel Tunnel is straightforward.
Southampton is served by the M3 and M27 motorways. Travellers arriving from the continent are advised to follow the M20-M26-M25-M3 motorways.
