Car Hire in Queenstown - Getting to Queenstown
Queenstown has its own airport, and there are direct flights from major New Zealand cities, as well as links with other cities around the country. It is also possible to fly direct from Sydney year round and from Brisbane in the winter. But if youre arriving from further a field youll have to first fly to Auckland or Christchurch (often with a stopover in Asia, Australia or Hawaii). The airport is situated only a short distance from the centre of Queenstown and there are shuttles and taxis to the town.
There is no rail route into Queenstown, but Bus services are well organised and there are regular buslinks with all major cities and towns. An excellent network of small private minibus services run between Queenstown and Dunedin, Christchurch and the West coast. Often they drop off/pick up from your hotel.
Driving in New Zealand is a pleasurable experience simply because of the scenery, though journeys always take longer than expected as the roads wind their way through the mountains. Traffic isnt heavy, roads are safe but drivers should take care.
