Pfaffenhofen is a city located in the district of Bavaria in Germany. It is surrounded from the south, clockwise, by the districts of Eichstatt, Kelheim, Dachau, Freising and Neuburg-Schrobenhausen, and also by the beautiful city of Ingolstadt.

During ancient times, dating to the medieval period, the region was partly owned by the more powerful monasteries, such as monasteries of Münchsmünster and Ilmmünster, and partly divided into small and secure states. One of those states was the small country of Scheyern. The Counts here were later the rulers of Bavaria and from that time onwards, this region became a part of Bavaria.

In order to form Pfaffenhofen, several former districts and towns were merged together in the year 1972. Geographically, this district is situated in the Hallertau Plains and is actually in between the Danube and Isar rivers, with the Danube located at its northern most part.
