Car Hire Park Royal - Mini guide to Park Royal
Park Royal is the largest industrial space in London. It is enormous, spanning a massive 1606 acres. This size allows it to be an attractive hub for businesses large and small, with currently over 1,200 firms operating within its boundaries.
For an industrial park it has a rather grand sounding name, and that is because the name derives from a more genteel time. Back in 1903, The Royal Agricultural Society opened some show grounds on the site, hoping to use it for its annual display. Unfortunately, the site had to be sold off a few years later, and because of the site’s good transport links, it was snapped up by industrialists.
Today, the estate is home to many small firms, but also some more familiar names that are recognised worldwide. Heinz has buildings there, as do McVities. Diageo, the international drinks company that manufacturers Guinness have offices on the site.
It is now part of the UK government’s policy to keep Park Royal as it is, an industrial estate. So there are no plans to beautify the area, or to erect hundreds of flats. The Mayor of London recently went on record to state that he wanted to maintain it as somewhere that business could be undertaken, including the possibility of the film industry having some hold in the area.
One unsavory aspect of the area in recent years has been the springing up of illegal parties, maybe the industrial look of the place lends itself to this kind of activity. In any case, it’s not a pretty place, but it is recognized as one of London’s manufacturing hubs.
