Ossett is a quaint little town located in the scenic Wakefield District of West Yorkshire. Although there are not very many sights within the town itself, it is close to some of Yorkshire’s more interesting places.

Ossett has recently made a name for itself due to its new brewery, which has been pumping out top-notch beers since 1998. Take a tour and sample some of the unique and award winning flavors.

A visit to the National Coal Mining Museum for England in nearby Wakefield will allow you to travel 250 feet underground and experience the conditions endured by coal miners over the years.

There are numerous restaurants and pubs to choose from in Ossett. If you’re a football fanatic, why not cheer on the Ossett Town Football Club at the local stadium.

The Wakefield District’s Country Parks offer opportunities for walking, bird watching, fishing and orienteering, particularly at Anglers Country Park with the Waterton Countryside Discovery Centre and Newmillerdam with its historic boathouse.

If you have the time, be sure to take a trip to the walled city of York, where you can wander through the medieval alleys, castle ruins, tucked-away churches, riverside gardens and topnotch museums. A short drive north of the city takes you to Castle Howard, one of the country's grandest stately homes. The colossal main house was designed by Sir John Vanbrugh in 1699 and took almost forty years to complete. Vanbrugh’s extravagant taste can be seen in the palatial Great Hall and throughout the estate’s thousand-acre grounds.

There is no railway station in Ossett, but trains from nearby Leeds run every 40 minutes to London’s King Cross Station (duration approx. 2 ½ hours). Leeds also has a modern international airport, making it that much easier to reach Ossett. Ossett can be reached by car from Highways A58 and A644.
