Car Hire New Orleans - Mini guide to New Orleans
The 'Big Easy' - New Orleans is famous for its good-time atmosphere, music, mish-mash of cultures and old-fashioned debauchery! The city, with its French, Spanish, Cajun and African flavours, is a unique American experience.
The French Quarter is the heart of old New Orleans. Walk down Bourbon Street and you'll hear pianos, laughs, blues guitars and zydeco music - the street literally oozes with charm! Jackson Square, the central courtyard of New Orleans, abounds with street musicians and artists. Just off the square on Chartres Street are two impressive history museums - the Cabildo and the Presbytère. Also of interest in the Quarter are St. Louis Cathedral the oldest continuously-active cathedral in the United States, the Old U.S. Mint and the French Market and Farmers Market. While you're here look for the Historic Voodoo Museum on Dumaine St.
About 2km south of the French Quarter lies the Garden District, which has retained its Spanish and French architecture. Check out the Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 (inspiration for several occult and Voodoo related movies) and the Audobon Zoo, a natural habitat zoo for sea lions, white tigers and a pack of albino alligators!
The Aquarium of the Americas is one of the lesser well-known highlights of New Orleans. Here you can see animals up close from all over the American continent, from see spotted moray eels to hawksbill turtles.
The major suburbs in New Orleans are: Arabi, Chalmette, Gentilly, Gretna, Kenner, Harahan, Harvey, Marrero, Metairie and Terrytown.
