Mopko airport is located in the South Korean city of Seoul. It is placed twenty two km’s away from Mopko city hall. It was built during the year 1969. The Mopko airport was closed down in the year 1972, owing to technical problems. The airport re-opened again two decades later. Flights between Mopko and Jeju started a year later (1993), while the Busan Mopko line was serviceable only by late October of the year 1994. Most of the flights stopped running around October 2001, and a bare minimum of two airplanes connecting Mopko and Seoul run each day. The difficulties faced here have been highlighted by a tragic event, which took place on the 26th of July 1993, when a flight of Asiana airlines carrying about 6 crew members and 110 passengers skidded of the runway due to bad weather and poor visibility. About 68 people were killed and many were injured.

It takes a tragedy for people to see reason. This may be true with Mopko airport which was closed down in October of the year 2007. A new airport named as Muan International Airport was opened. Mopko airport will continue to be fondly remembered by the local residents.
