Cala’n Porter is one of the largest coastal developments along the central south coast of Menorca. High up on the spectacular cliffs, which overlook the sea and the beach, is where most of the resort’s accommodation and amenities are situated. Cala’n Porter is popular with British tourists and there are supermarkets and shops selling British brands.

A major advantage is that it is one of the shortest transfers from the International Airport, being only 15 minutes travel time away.

The resort lies within easy reach of Mahon, known locally as Mao. This is the main town on the island and the main centre for shopping and sightseeing.

Cala’n Porter is home to the famous cave and legend of Xoroi. He was a pirate who kidnapped and held a local girl prisoner for a number of years. The cave now serves as a bar and disco.

Traditional local colour can be sampled through the island’s various fiestas and carnivals, some of which can trace their origins back to the 14th century. The fiesta of Sant Llorenc in nearby Alaior takes place on the first weekend after 10th August. Country markets, held in the mornings before the heat of the day takes its hold, provide opportunities to sample local produce and buy those craft ware items you need as souvenirs. Local delicacies include ‘Pomada,’ which is a mix of island-made gin and lemon and ‘Coco amb Xocolati,’ a baked cake served with a sweet chocolate drink.

The many restaurants cover a range of prices and styles, which include Southern Fried Chicken and traditional seafood. Bars include, ‘The Village Pub,’ in the Central Square.
