Car Hire Kirkwall Airport - Mini guide to Kirkwall Airport
Kirkwall is a small island airport with regional connections to Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Wick, Glasgow, Inverness, Sumburgh in the Shetlands and Orkney. The principle carriers operating out of Kirkwall are Loganair and BA.
The single terminal operates scheduled services to island airstrips including the Westray to Papa Westray route which, with a flying time of less than two minutes, is the shortest scheduled air service in the world. Connections to other islands include flights to Sumburgh and Orkney inter-island flights, while there are also flights to Aberdeen, Inverness, Wick and Edinburgh.
Financial needs such as currency exchange should be attended to before arrival at the airport, as facilities are limited in the terminal building.
However, refreshment is on hand at a cafe, as well as a convenience store selling drinks, snacks and newspapers. There is also a limited array of gifts available, with island handicrafts making attractive presents.
Disabled travellers are facilitated by the presence of specially designed toilets, adapted doorways to ease the transit of wheelchairs, and ramps positioned between different floor levels.
Any further queries may be reffered to the airport information desk, located in the main terminal.
