Car Hire in Kingston - Getting to Kingston

Kingston's airport, Norman Rogers Airport, has six daily scheduled flights from Toronto and one flight from Montreal daily. Connections to other domestic and international destinations can be made from these cities. It takes 15 to 20 minutes to drive downtown, and since the bus route is not very direct, it is best to take a taxi.

Kingston is located along one of Canada's busiest corridors, Highway 401, midway between Toronto and Montreal. To reach Ottawa, head east along Highway 401 to the junction with Highway 416 and head north. There is a busy border crossing to the USA off the 401 near Gananoque leading to I-81 and I-90.

Kingston's modern passenger rail station is the sixth busiest in Canada and is served by 20 trains per day, with connections to Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal, as well as to southwestern Ontario, western Canada and the Maritimes. Located on Counter Street, the station is about a 10-minute drive from downtown, with frequent buses and taxis available.

Kingston's Coach Canada/Trentway Wagar bus station is also on Counter Street, a couple of kilometres from the train station. There are frequent buses connecting you to Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal, as well as to other towns in the region.

Ferries to Wolfe Island (an island in between Ontario and New York) run hourly, and take approximately 30 minutes. On the opposite side of the island, ferries can be taken to Cape Vincent and New York. There are various cruises available around the harbour and the Thousand Islands. These depart from Confederation Basin in front of City Hall.
