Flying into Lima? Jorge Chavez International Airport is located 10 miles northwest of Lima, near Callao. The airport is Peru’s largest. A number of airlines have service to the air terminal including: Aeroflot, Aeromexico, American Airlines, Continental, Delta Air Lines, Iberia, KLM, Lufthansa and Varig.

The domestic and international halls cater well for foreign visitors with friendly staff on their customer service desks who are multi-lingual. A baggage storage facility and money changing facilities can be found in the main hall.

A wide range of shops and services can be found on the main concourse and mezzanine levels of the international terminal in the Peru Plaza Commercial Centre. Restaurants, cafes and bars are available for the peckish, while shops sell everything from traditional crafts to books. Medical services, including a pharmacy, can be found on the mezzanine level and can help with necessary vaccinations. Car hire services can be obtained in the main hall.

Those staying in Lima have several options for their airport transfer. A taxi rank can be found outside of the Arrivals area. Buses and minibuses also provide service between the airport and central Lima. However, there are no bus stops within the airport grounds, so a short walk is required to Elmer Faucett Avenue. Train services are incredibly limited, only running once or twice a month. While driving in Lima is challenging, a car hire (and a very good map) will have you in the city centre within 15 minutes.

When venturing outside of Lima, car hire is strongly recommended as it provides your party independence and comfort. While public transportation is available, it is often not adequate for touring. Taxis can be very expensive and may be difficult to find in certain parts of Peru.
