Car Hire Hua Hin - Mini guide to Hua Hin

A few hours south of Bangkok is Hua Hin beach side resort, a popular sea-side destination in Thailand for those who want to escape the tourist traps of the more excessive coastal sea-side resorts like Pattaya and Phuket.

Hua Hin has character and charm. Not only does Thailand’s Royal family like to retreat here, but many Bangkok residents find their way here for weekend escapes. It has good beaches, plenty of seafood restaurants, well developed hotel and resorts and is only two hours drive from Bangkok.

The town’s landmarks include: a colonial style Railway Hotel built near Hua Hin's famous rocks; Hua Hin’s teak railway; King Rama VII’s ‘Klai Kangwon’ (Far From Worries) Palace on the beach a few km north of the Railway Hotel and the colonial style Sofitel Central Hua Hin Hotel, portrayed as the Phnom Penh hotel in the movie The Killing Fields.

Tee off at over eight courses within 30km of the town. Golfers can enjoy the world class 72-par Royal Hua Hin Golf Course for a reasonable non-member’s fee.

Hua Hin’s beaches are renown for their refreshing sea breeze and white sand that runs for miles from the Sofitel at the end of Damnoenkasem Rd. At the main beach there are umbrellas for lounging and vendors will satisfy your needs for drinks and snacks, pony rides, jet skis and even a Thai traditional massage. For an invigorating walk, follow the shoreline of Hua Hin Beach south to Khao Takiap and walk up the steps to the temple. This is a good 7km walk.

For the great outdoors, Hua Hin is unsurpassed, boasting great National Parks and a great transport infrastructure for motorists. In nearby Kanchanaburi Province, there are five more national parks, Erawan, Sai Yoke, Sri Nakarin, Khao Laem, and Chalerm Rattanakosin each with an impressive array of flora and fauna. The drive from Bangkok, through Petchaburi, is also delightful, with its rice paddies interspersed with coconut palms and tradiotnal teak houses.

There are several buses and trains daily from Bangkok which stop in Hua Hin. Bangkok Airways has daily flights to and from Bangkok's Don Muang International Airport to Hua Hin.
