Mini guide to Halifax

Halifax is an enthralling city, kept rich by its deeply rooted maritime traditions, beautiful natural harbours, and fascinating history.

Nova Scotia's small capital rests along one of the world's largest natural harbours, halfway across Nova Scotia's south Atlantic shore. It is situated on a peninsula between the harbour and the North West Arm inlet. The downtown area extends west from the water to the Citadel, the star-shaped fort on the hill, while Cogswell St. to the north and Spring Garden rd to the south mark the other city limits. Most attractions are easy to find on foot.

Halifax is a goldmine for Canadian history buffs. The Maritime Command Museum is a

must-see and for those interested in a fan-fare of national displays, shops, exhibits, and cafes, be sure to check out the Pier 21 Centre hidden behind the VIA Rail station. The historic properties on Upper Water street are an excellent destination for those interested in historical architecture, and the Halifax Citadel National Historical Site is the most visited national site in Canada. For those with an interest in the Titanic, the gravesites for many of the doomed ship’s passengers can be visited here. And for those interested in old sea-vessels, the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, just a stones throw south of the Historic Properties, is a popular spot.
