Car Hire Garching - Mini guide to Garching

Garching

The town of Garching lies near Munich and just under 15,000 people make it their home. World War II took quite a toll on the area not only damaging a large number of the main buildings, but taking the lives of local soldiers. Rebuilding was very slow but got a boost in 1957 when the first German atomic reactor known as the “atomic egg” was put into operation. In the mid 1990’s the new underground railway opened and became a popular way to travel the region, and it is currently under a major expansion.

There is plenty to do in this relatively small town including the great library, community center, and Lake Garching. Eating out offers many choices from coffee shops, to pubs and bars, to fine dining. Many of the pubs offer local entertainment and serve as the location for many a late evening dart tournament. The campus and research institute is enormous and involves the Ludwig Maximilians University, Max Planck Institute, and German Research Institution for Food Chemistry just to name a few.

Visitors the large expansive campus are often overwhelmed at the size, and enjoy the many interesting libraries and learning centers. Investors love Garching because of the strong technical base and number of students who attend the schools making it attractive to other businesses, families who work there, and those with a vested interest in the products and services provided. The booming university town is growing once again, and is expected to add at least one more large learning center by the year 2010.

The towns close proximity to Munich makes it an excellent place to call home since you have a large city close by, but the ambiance of a smaller university home town. The cost of living is less than in the big city and home resale values are steady since so many people move in and out of the area. Traffic is very manageable and you have a choice of rail, or car if you are staying in the town. The many festivals and fairs that take place during the year also serve the residents, and serve as a great way for the university and research centers to share what they are working on. The weather is moderate with temperatures ranging from 30 to 65 degrees, and average rainfall is expected.
