Doetinchem is located in the Gelderland province of the Netherlands and along the river Oude Ijssel. There isn't much to do here, but there are a few things that you can see if you like mills. There is a rail service that runs around the area, but for a more handy form of transport look into renting a car. In the Dichteren hamlet, you will find the Aurora Mill. The mill was constructed in 1870 as a substitute for the old mill, Houtkamphal. The Harbers family owned the mill from the years 1870 – 1976, and then it was bought by Doetinchem and restored in 1978. Now they use it for grinding animal fee, and it is open for visitors a couple days in the week.

There is also a corn mill by the name of Benninkmolen in Doetinchem, but before it was built, another mill stood in its place. The original one was constructed in 1856 by B. Vels, and was demolished in 1920 with Benninkmolen built in place of it. The Bennink family owned the mill until 1976, which is when Doetinchem bought and took it over. It is still being used today and is open for visitors for a couple of days during the week.

Yet another mill, called Walmolen, was constructed in 1851 as the replacement for an older mill that was burned in 1850. It was continued to be used until 1908, and then in 1910 it was dismantled in parts. Then, in 1961, the mill was threatened to be demolished, but the local community's protests encouraged the proper authorities to restore it instead. Parts of the old mill located in Leiden were taken for the reconstruction. The mill still runs today, and it is open on Tuesdays for visitors.
