Car Hire in Chandler - Mini guide to Chandler
Chandler is a city located in the state of Arizona. It is located in Maricopa County and is home to more than 240,000 people. It is a great example of urban sprawl, considering that the population of Chandler was only 30,000 people in 1980. The city has many tract home developments and is a prominent suburb of the Phoenix area.
The city was first established by Arizona’s first veterinarian surgeon, Dr. Alexander John Chandler in 1891. He bought a ranch in the area and continues to acquire land throughout the years until he began to draw up plans to a town site. The town was official established in 1912 with the opening of the office and the high school. The first golf resort in the state was built a year later.
Surprisingly, the economy faired well in Chandler during the great depression. And then the population surged when the Williams Air Force Base was founded in 1941. It has seen a great leap in population since then, making it a popular place for those who are looking to live outside of the Phoenix city area. The growth of the town can be seen to be the result of some major companies moving in, such as Motorola and Intel.
An interesting event in Chandler is the annual Ostrich Festival. In the early twentieth century, there were a few ostrich farms in the area that catered to the demand of feathers for women’s hats. There are also couple of museums that you can’t go without seeing, such as the Arizona Railway Museum.
