One of town’s chief attractions is Towneley Hall (dating from the 14th and 16th centuries), and its dungeons and battlements remain. Situated in Towneley Park, 180 hectares of landscaped parkland, the hall houses an art gallery and museum. Another building of note is Gawthorpe Hall, an early 17th century house restored in the 1860s, where you can see exhibits of lace and textiles, once the main products of the region.

The town centre boasts a wide variety of shops and provides an attractive shopping environment. For the best High Street names, enjoy the glass covered walkways and atriums in Charter Walk Shopping Centre. Alternatively, explore the traditional Victorian streets, packed with specialist shops and traditional markets. When you need a break, nearby is award-winning Thompson Park, featuring a boating lake and formal Italian gardens.

Burnley also offers great places to eat and drink, with a wide range of café bars and restaurants. It also has numerous pubs and some superb nightclubs. There are plenty of other leisure facilities, including golf courses, a multi-screen cinema, leisure centre, and a ten-pin bowling alley, all within easy reach of the town centre. Manchester Airport is about an hour’s drive south of Burnley and offers direct flights to several European cities. It’s a three-and-a-half hour train ride from London changing in Preston or York. The M65 skirts Burnley in West Yorkshire (junction 10).
