The airfield at Borlange Airport was originally constructed during World War II and was brought up to date in the early '60s. The first civil airline came to the airport in 1960. In the early '70s, the addition of a new terminal building was completed. To this day, the airfield remains under the ownership of the Swedish military.
The most passengers to come through the terminals of the Borlange Airport came in 1989 with as many as two hundred ten thousand travelers coming through the gates that year. Two years ago, in 2006, only thirty-three thousand passengers came through, a decline from the previous year. The decline in business comes from more passengers choosing the slightly faster train to Stockholm, the most frequently used connection, and makes stops in Arlanda for the past nine years. A lot of passengers go on to other flights and the train is a nice option from Borlange. The road that leads to Stockholm despite recent repairs is still in need of improvement.
