Car Hire Bergen - Mini guide to Bergen
The historic city of Bergen, with its cultured atmosphere and low skyline of red-tiled roofs, is the main jumping-off point for journeys into the western fjords.
From here you can visit Sognefjord, Norway's longest (200km) and deepest (1300m) fjord; the scenic Hardangerfjord; the massive Jostedalsbreen glacier; spectacular waterfalls at Geirangerfjord; and Trollveggen - a jagged and often cloud-shrouded summit that is considered the ultimate challenge among Norwegian mountain climbers.
One of the finest and most extensive collections of marine fauna in Europe is housed at the Bergen Aquarium, located on the outermost point of Nordnes, with a delightful view over the approach to the port of Bergen. Seals and penguins playing in the large pools. It's also home to the one of Europes largest collections of fish and invertebrates.
Gallery Bryggen in central Bergen focuses on Norways cultural heritage, mainly from the Viking period, as well as contemporary Norwegian arts and crafts. Admission is free.
A few hours by car are the spectacular views of Mount Ulriken. Come and see the unique view from the top of Mount Ulriken with the free telescopes. This is a good starting point for hikes. A popular, but long and quite hard hike, is to Mount Floien which takes about 4 hours to walk.
Bergen is easy to get to, from other places in Norway and from abroad. Thanks to direct air routes from Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Aberdeen and London.
