Car Hire Aalborg - Mini guide to Aalborg
Located 383kms (238 miles) West of Copenhagen, Aalborg is the largest city in northern Jutland. A lively shipping town with a busy commercial centre, Aalborg makes an interesting stop for sightseers, with its myriad of hotels and attractions, and boasts at least 300 restaurants.
The city is also steeped in history, founded over 1,000 years ago when the Viking fleets were dominating the area. The city's historic past is well preserved in its shaded streets and alleys. Near the Church of Our Lady are many restored houses that date back to the 16th century.
In town, on Kongs Christians, is Nordjyllands Kunstmuseet (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art). Housed in a building that is a splendid example of Scandinavian architecture, the museum has a fine collection of Danish and international art. Not far away is the Marine Museum on Vester Fjordvej 81, which is the home of the worlds fastest speedboat.
Youll find many moderately priced restaurants around town, but if youre looking for something more upmarket, try Hos Boldt. Aalborg's most likeable restaurant, established in 1992 in a 19th-century building, serves exquisite food in old-fashioned rooms.
Not too far from Aalborg, on the west coast of northern Jutland, are some of the most pristine beaches in northern Europe, stretching from Slettestrand to Skagen. The pleasant resort towns of Blokhus and Løkken are packed with tourists in the summer months.
The easiest way to get to Aalborg is to fly from Copenhagen; the airport is 6.5kms (4 miles) from the city centre. There is frequent train service from Copenhagen by way of Fredericia to Århus; there you can take a 90 train to Aalborg. If youre coming by car, start from Ebeltoft, follow Route 21 north until you reach the junction with Route 16. Drive west on Route 16 until you come to E45, which runs north to Aalborg.
