Flour Power!

Bircham Windmill was built in 1846 to grind corn for horse and cattle feed and wheat for bread making.

The mill worked until the 1920s when the sails were removed and the tower abandoned. Standing in the heart of Norfolk's undulating fields, the mill was restored to glory by the current owners and now looks as it did over 100 years ago. Today, Bircham Mill is the only working windmill open to the public in Norfolk.

On windy days visitors can see the mill’s sails at work as they drive the machinery within. A climb to the fifth floor to the fan stage allows an even closer look at the sails as well as uninterrupted views across the countryside.

Visitors can also sample the products from the mill’s bakery at the café or take advantage of a range of walking leaflets on sale at the shop. For the more energetic visitor, the mill has its own bike hire, and for children, a range of animals including: pygmy goats, guinea pigs and Falabella miniature horses live at the mill.

Bircham Mill is open 10am to 5pm until 30th September. For further information ring 01485 578393 or visit: www.birchamwindmill.co.uk
