Car Hire

Located just over four miles from Montpellier is France’s 10th busiest airport, which is officially called Montpellier-Méditerranée Airport and is also known as Fréjorgues Airport. Airport shuttle buses operate between the airport and the city, while trams and trains can be met where the shuttle bus terminates. The fastest and most convenient way to access the city, however, is with car hire in Montpellier Airport, with Montpellier being a 20-minute drive to the northwest.

Who to Book With
Car rental suppliers at the airport include worldwide firms such as Europcar, Avis and Budget, and French firm ADA. All suppliers have offices in the car hire area outside of the terminal building, yet vehicles are collected from car park P6.

- The credit card which was used when booking the vehicle
- A document to confirm your ID

Driving
In France, parking restrictions are strongly enforced, with steep fines or towing the norm for parking in a prohibited area. Blue discs for blue zone parking can be purchased at shops, tourist offices and police stations. Automatic petrol pumps and serviced pumps accept credit cards, but UK-issued cards are not always accepted. All vehicles must have a warning triangle and reflective jacket in case of an emergency. UK motorists can purchase a télépéage transponder to use on French toll roads or they can pay by credit card at toll stations.

Transport

Self-drive is the easiest way for arriving passengers to quickly access the city. Buses are cheap but take longer and stop running at 23:20. This means that passengers arriving late are left with the option of taking an expensive taxi.

Trains
Montpellier St Roch Station is accessible via the airport shuttle bus and tram. From here, SNCF trains run to Paris, Lyon, Lille and a number of other destinations.

Taxis
Taxis depart from directly outside of the passenger terminal Arrivals area. Fares rise between 19:00 and 07:00.

Buses
Navette shuttle buses operated by Hérault Transport run between the airport and Montpellier’s Place de l’Europe tramway station between 08:45 and 23:05. The journey into the city takes approximately 15 minutes and costs about £1.20 for a single journey or about £2 including the tram.

Facilities

Terminals
There is one passenger terminal which services nearly two million passengers annually at Montpellier Airport. The airport operates flights to domestic destinations as well as to London-Gatwick, Brussels, Frankfurt, Corsica and destinations in Morocco, as well as seasonal services to London-Luton, Munich, Rotterdam and Algeria.

Parking
There are four car parks at the airport, of which two are short term and two are long term. Fares are the most expensive in short-term P2, which is situated directly in front of the terminal, while they are cheapest at the long-term P6 car park. Tariffs run from around £18 a day, but deals can be had for long-term stays.

Wi-Fi
Wireless internet can be accessed free of charge for up to 10 minutes on the first floor. Prepaid cards can be purchased at the airport shop to be used after the initial 10 minutes and cost around £2 for 30 minutes and £3.50 for one hour.

There is an information desk located between the Departures and Arrivals halls.

Accessibility
Passengers with reduced mobility can avail of assistance by using the dedicated phone outside of the passenger terminal or by reporting to the check-in desk of their airline. All car parks have spaces reserved for persons with reduced mobility, while the airport shuttles into the city are wheelchair-friendly.

Restaurants and Bars
There are two restaurants that are open before the first flight until after the last flight departs, with Trib’s (Departures hall) serving sandwiches and salads, and Villa Plancha (Arrivals hall) featuring southern French cuisine. Both of these eateries serve alcohol.

Money and ATMs
There are ATMs available between the Arrivals and Departures halls, next to the information desk. There are no bank branches or currency exchange services on site.

Shopping
Duty-free alcohol, tobacco, cosmetics and perfume can be purchased at Baltona. Tobacco products are also available at Relay (Departures hall), as are books, magazines, newspapers, snacks and souvenirs.
