Time Travel To Egypt

With no end of ancient and stunning attractions, Egypt has unsurprisingly long been thought of as an ideal holiday destination. Cairo alone has enough to occupy visitors for a number of days. Offering a mix of Egyptian, Roman and Greek history, the city has numerous ancient and historic monuments. Downtown Cairo is the best place to see ancient religious buildings, while Cairo Tower, the tallest building in the country, is an ideal spot to head for lunch accompanied by stunning views of the city.

A holiday to Egypt isnt complete without a visit to the pyramids, so youll be keen to venture out towards the Giza Pyramid Complex. There are six pyramids in total, but it is the largest one that is the most popular. That pyramid, the Great Pyramid of Giza, is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and it is the oldest of them all. This pyramid has been carefully preserved, so visitors can see it exactly as it was when it was constructed all those years ago. When you are finished seeing the pyramids, you must go and visit the Great Sphinx of Giza. The sphinx is next to the pyramids. No one has any idea why this sphinx was constructed, or who did it for that matter, but visitors can come to their own conclusions once it is looming over them.

Luxor on the River Nile has a number of ancient temples that is worth the drive. It is also the site of the famous Valley of the Kings along with the Abu Simbel temples. This is where Tutankhamuns tomb was unearthed. You will be able to lose yourself in ancient history having the freedom to explore these significant landmarks.

Shopping features heavily in Egypt too and one of the best places is the Khan el-Khalili souq. This marketplace is the largest one in all of Cairo and while visitors can find some souvenirs, they can also purchase items from traditional artisans. Everyone should plan on spending a good amount of time at this marketplace, as it can take a while to see all the merchants. Thankfully, there are quite a few street vendors on-site selling their delicious cuisine, as shopping can make a person hungry!

Those who ventured to Khan el-Khalili will want to take a detour before returning to their hotel. Al-Azhar Park is a spectacular park that can be found in the middle of the city and it is the perfect place to relax after a few hours of shopping. Everyone is encouraged to wander along the paths and through the gardens. However, it is the hills that get the most attention, because they offer three-hundred- and sixty-degree views of the city.

Egypt is not just all about sightseeing, its a place of relaxing too and how could it not be with all that sand? The coast along the Red Sea is a wonder of desert beauty and itis also well known as one of the best places to scuba dive. A number of Egypts dive sites are world renowned, and the vibrant coral reef will not disappoint whether you decide to dive or snorkel.

Not done with history yet? Then take the time to travel to the Abu Simbel Temples. This is the most popular attraction in the entire country and visitors can see carvings of the original pharaohs of Egypt. These temples were originally covered in sand thousands of years ago, but they were discovered and unburied once again back in 1813. Youll be glad you added this to your 'must see' list.
