British holidaymakers are facing travel chaos after Spanish air traffic controllers voted to stage at least three days of strikes this month.

The Spanish controllers, who earn an average £167,000 following a 40% cut this year, are protesting over what they claim to be excessive hours of work. They are set to strike for a minimum of three days from August 18, affecting at least 300,000 British holidaymakers.

Tourists visiting Spain are likely to face delays or cancellations if air traffic controllers go ahead with their threatened strike.

If you are set to fly on or around August 18 it is advisable to contact your tour operator or airline to see if you are likely to be affected by the strike action. If you have already purchased your insurance policy it is worth reading your terms and conditions to see if you are covered for industrial strike action in the event that you face disruption.
