How to Save Money on Petrol
Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
With the high price of petrol eating into people’s monthly budgets, driving economically has become more important to cutting down on costs.
By slightly changing driving style motorists can make a big difference to the amount of fuel that they consume, meaning less trips to the petrol station and more savings. For example, simply by reducing your driving speed you can save a significant amount of petrol – drivers can use up to 30% less fuel by driving at 50mph as opposed to 70mph. Avoiding sudden acceleration and harsh braking also helps improve efficiency of a car’s engine, which is also aided by removing any heavy items from the boot that you don’t need to carry round with you, such as golf clubs or books.
Remember to check that all tyres are inflated to the recommended levels as tyres lacking pressure result in a higher fuel usage. You can find this out from your vehicle booklet; it’s always worthwhile checking as sometimes back tyres have different pressures to the front tyres, depending on the make and model of the vehicle.
To make further savings, look out for any fuel discount vouchers at supermarkets and any reward card schemes in petrol stations to save some extra cash.
