With all UK flights still being grounded, many travellers are unable to reach their holiday destination meaning any travellers with car hire bookings cannot pick up their vehicle at the designated time. If you are affected by this issue then you should contact your specific car hire provider to see what their company policy is, as with this being such an uncommon event, many have made specific announcements to assist customers.

A spokesperson for Sixt said: “Due to the current volcano crisis, the cancellation of prepaid bookings will be free of charge at Sixt airport locations affected by flight cancellations”.

Check with your specific car hire company to see what their cancellation and delayed pick up policies are during this time. It may also be possible to arrange favourable rates on extending car rentals for anyone stranded at their holiday destination.

Booked car hire and extra insurance with eRentals and had to cancel because my flights were cancelled due to ash cloud, of all the cancellations I had to make (3 hotels, parking, Insurance, trips) the only company who caused a fuss was the car hire.
They were the only ones who made it awkward to cancel and made a cancelation charge, plus I had to cancel the extra Insurance sepperately.
    Would not use again, Mark.

    Hi Mark

After talking to the car hire suppler which powers Erentals for you, they have decided that they will refund you the cancellation charge that they made when you canceled your car hire – Cardelmar will be in touch with you personally to inform you about this and make the refund.

With regards to the Car Hire Excess Insurance, we do state at the time of booking that this is with a separate supplier and it also says on the information email you are sent out that should you need to cancel your car hire you will have to cancel the insurance separately.

We are sorry that you had all this inconvenience with the car hire cancellation which was obviously not your fault and hope that you are now happy with the outcome of all this. If we can be of any further help please contact us here.

    Many thanks
    Gareth
