Leading car hire comparison site Carrentals.co.uk is urging British travellers to book early for the summer after a number of rental suppliers sold out in key locations over peak travel periods such as half term and Easter.

With high demand for car hire both in the UK and in popular overseas holiday locations such as Alicante, Malaga, Palma and Faro, the past few months have seen some suppliers run out of stock, leaving travellers with the difficult task of finding alternative transport.

Gareth Robinson, managing director of Carrentals.co.uk, says: “Demand in certain locations has exceeded supply this year. A number of car hire suppliers have held their stock levels because of the economic climate, but with many people still travelling some are being caught out.

“We are in a strong position in that we compare up to 50 rental companies on our site, meaning that if one supplier doesn’t have availability the chances are that one of our smaller suppliers will, but even then in some locations supply is selling out for certain dates. The best advice is for anyone who needs car rental to book as early as possible to secure a vehicle for their trip.”

A week’s car hire in Orlando currently starts from just £16* a day, with prices from £18* a day in Crete, from £16* a day in Newquay and from just £18* a day in Malaga.

Gareth added: “Planning ahead not only gives you more chance of getting a car, but usually also ensures a greater choice of vehicle type. Cars such as people carriers or convertibles tend to be in relatively low supply, so if you have special requirements booking early is even more important.”
