Parma is a city in the region of Emilia-Romagna, in Italy. The fine countryside and the architecture of the buildings found throughout the city are the most famous aspects of Parma. Within Parma tourists should definitely visit the Romanesque Cathedral (pictured above). It houses two remarkable sculptures;  the Benedetto Antelami (12th Century) and the Antonio da Correggio (16th Century). Another great place to visit is the Baptistery, adjacent to the cathedral.

The University of Parma, one of the oldest universities in the world is found here. The Palazzo della Pilotta is the location for the Academy of Fine Arts and the School of Parma. It also houses the National Gallery, Palatine Library, Farnese Theatre, Archaeological Museum, and the Bodoni Museum.

The Ducal Palace is another site for tourists to visit when exploring Parma. It was constructed in 1561 by Duke Ottavio Farnese. In the 17th and 18th centuries, it was enlarged and refurbished, and today includes the Palazzo Eucherio Sanvitale which contains an abundance of decorations dating from the 16th century. A large fortress called the Citadella also attracts a lot of tourists here.
