The Saint Etienne Rail Station (Gare de Saint-etienne) is located in Chaeaucreux, within a short distance of the busy city centre. The station is connected to the downtown area by a second tramway route. Housed in a building of some architectural interest, the station is equipt with adequate passenger amenities, including car hire.

Throughout the city's past Saint Etienne has been epitomised as a town of technical knowledge. Eight years ago it received the appellation 'Village of Art and History'. The internationally acclaimed Musee d'Art Moderne houses a world class art collection. Two other fine museums are the Musee des Ponts et Chaussees and the Musee de la Mine.

The Rhone-Alpes region boasts an outstanding and well-maintained road network that provides convenient access to the major tourist attractions. Car rental services are available at the Saint Etienne Rail Station and elsewhere in the city.
