Chester Zoo – The UK’s Number One Charity Zoo

From elephants to stingrays, tigers to tree shrews, penguins to crocodiles, Chester Zoo has so much to offer that you’ll be spoilt for choice for what to do first!

The latest addition to the zoo is the spectacular Realm of the Red Ape, where you can see the zoo’s Bornean and Sumatran orang-utans living in their new tropical environment, along with a wide selection of Indonesian Forest species, such as gibbons, reptiles and birds.

Be a part of the action in Europe’s biggest free-flight bat zone. Watch in awe as 300 of one of the world’s largest bats - the Livingstone’s fruit bat – zoom past in every direction. In addition to this, you get the chance to see the 120 baby bats, ‘pups’, try to find their flying wings! On the ground you can watch out for the Turkish spiny mice and Madagascan hissing cockroaches!

There are also plenty of fun-filled activities for the kids with the fantastic children’s Fun Ark, giving you time to soak up the surroundings of the zoo’s beautiful and award-winning gardens.

The 110-acre Zoo is open all year, except Christmas Day and Boxing Day, from 10am. Last entry and closing times vary with the seasons. Car parking is free. Restaurants, shops, monorail and summer time boat bus are also on offer. Facilities are available for disabled visitors, including self-drive electric scooters and wheelchairs.
