Zante, or Zakynthos, is the third-largest of the Ionian Islands, covering an area of 410 square kilometres of varied terrain. The main town of the same name is easily accessible by both air and sea.
You can fly from Athens on Olympic Airways to Zante Airport, located about 30 minutes from Zante town, in about an hour. Taxis in Zante are quite affordable and widely available, but be sure to agree on a price for your destination before you get in.
Greek Coach Services (KTEL) has buses from Athens; estimated travel time is five hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus from Athens to Kilini (four hours), and then catch a ferry from Kilini to Zante (one hour). The trip from Patras is approximately two hours by bus and ferry. There are approximately five services a day from Athens to Zante and return.
Car ferry companies operating from Venice, Ancona, Bari or Brindisi (Italy) to Patras (Greece) are: SuperFast Ferries, Minoan Lines and Anek Lines. The port of Kilini lies approximately 80kms south of Patras. Travelling time from Kilini by ferryboat to Zante is approximately one hour.
In summer, ferries ply the Kefalonia-Pesada and Zakynthos-Skinari-Agios Nicolas routes four times a day.
