York isn’t really close to any significant international airports, but trains are efficient and you either arrive at Manchester Airport from many European cities and very limited Trans-Atlantic places, or fly into London Heathrow and take a two-hour train ride.

York is a busy rail hub for the north of England and there are an average of two trains an hour to York from London, though some are quicker than others. Direct services also travel to several other UK cities.

Express buses travel to York from major cities such as London (five hours), Birmingham (three hours) and Edinburgh (six hours).

York is a four-hour drive from London or Edinburgh. The road network is extensive, highways are efficient though sometimes crowded, particularly as you approach Birmingham.
