One of the many attractions in Wurzburg is the Würzburg Residenz (1720-1744), a huge building at the eastern tip of the town. The Julius Spital baroque-style hospital offers tours around its building. Its wine cellar dates back to medieval times. It remains to this day the second largest winery in Germany. The Market Square is a ‘must see’ and its wonderfully decorated Christmas market is one of Germany’s top Christmas attractions. The four-towered Cathedral of St. Kilian is the third tallest ecclesiastical building in Germany and is one of the most extensive Romanesque churches in the whole of Germany. Würzburg hosts many events throughout the summer including wine festivals, Mozart festivals, Bach festivals and the Internationale Afro Music Festival which is Europe’s largest festival of African culture and music.
