Wurzburg is notable for being the place where X-rays, one of the most important tools in modern day medicine was discovered in 1895 by Wilhelm Röntgen in his original laboratory at the University of Wurzburg.

Luckily, many of Wurzburg’s ""100 churches"" survived the war still intact with styles ranging from Romanesque, Gothic Renaissance, Baroque to modern style. You should also visit Hofkirche of Residenz, the Church of Our Lady (Marienkirche), Alte Mainbrücke, St. Kilian on the Old Main Bridge and the Fortress Marienberg, castle on a hill which gives you a superb view of the whole town area and the surrounding hills. You should also remember that notable festivals in the city include the Afrika Fest in May, the Mozart Fest, in June/July and the Kiliani Volksfest in mid July.
