Wolfratshausen is a town of the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, located in Bavaria, Germany. The small but charming town with a population of 17,118 as of 2003 has many picturesque lakes and mountains and covers 9.13 square kilometers. It is located 577 meters above sea level.

Wolfratshausen is composed of three towns and 18 municipalities. History shows that Wolfratshausen was first mentioned in the year 1003. In 1280, the place was designated as a market town characterized by the popular use water transport in the Loisach and Isar rivers.

It was here where Otto II, the Graf of Deißen-Andechs built a spectacular on top of a hill which provides a superb view of the valley but in 1734, lightning struck, destroying the castle. The ruins of the burned tower were transported to Munich to build the house of Residenz. Wolfratshausen used to be the seat of the district government until 1972 when it was moved to Bad Tölz.

One of the main attractions of Wolfratshausen is rafting in the green depths of Isar river.Raft rides today are available from Wolfratshausen into Munich. This is one experience you should not miss as it brings rich history of the place. The use of rafts on this river started as early as 1280, when Wolfratshausen was designated a market town. Then in the 15th century, people were using the Loisach and Isar rivers particularly for transporting logs.
