Car Hire Woking - Mini guide to Woking
Located on the River Wey in Surrey County, southeastern England, Woking offers visitors a marvelous variety of attractions, from historic buildings and interesting museums to family-oriented theme parks and vast expanses of greenery.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the towns heritage is the Shah Jehan Mosque, the first mosque in Britain. Built in 1889, it is now the headquarters of the Islamic community in Great Britain. Woking is also the location of the first crematorium in England (built in 1885).
Wandering around the town you will come across some interesting sights, including the unusual town gates on the east side of Town Square, the Woking Mural on the north wall of the train station, and the ruins of Woking Palace, once home of Henry VIII. Children will love the Mizens Railway, Thorpe Theme Park, and Chessington World of Adventures. For something different, take a relaxing cruise along the waterways of the Basingstoke Canal, which winds 3.5 miles through Woking Borough.
Woking has ample quality accommodation and some excellent restaurants. There is a variety of nightlife, centered round bars, pubs and clubs.
Sussex abounds with attractions, and within comfortable driving distance of Woking you can experience beautiful natural areas such as Burpham Court Farm Park, Clandon Park, Hatchlands Park, Painshill Landscaped Garden, and RHS Wisley Gardens; fascinating museums including Brooklands Museum and Cobham Bus Museum; and enthralling edutainment venues like Bird World, Underwater World and Legoland.
London Heathrow and London Gatwick both serve numerous flights from all major world cities, and are within 15 and 20 miles of Woking respectively. The M25 runs through the Borough with the M3 and A3 in easy reach.
