Car Hire in Whyalla Airport - Mini guide to Whyalla Airport
Whyalla Airport is an airport just outside of Whyalla. While it's operated by the City of Whyalla, the airport is chiefly used a a general aviation airport. While the runway is long enough to support aircraft the size of a 737, the condition of the runway makes such landings impossible.
The airport itself is suitable for small aircraft, and does have some amenities and services. There are car hire services available at the airport, though more extensive selections can be had from the nearby city of Whyalla. The mining industry would be a major user of the airport, but the runways are in such poor condition that large aircraft landing there may not be able to take off again.
It's possible to fly into Whyalla, though it's far more common to fly into Adelaide. The Whyalla Airport is listed as an emergency landing site for Qantas flights, but any major flight that lands there may not be able to take off again. The airport has two runways, both of which are over are roughly a kilometer and a half in length, though the shorter of the two remains unsurfaced.
