Car Hire Vitoria - Mini guide to Vitoria
VitoriaThe quiet hamlet of Vitoria began to boom in the 1980’s after it was named the headquarters for the government of the Basque Region. The Vitoria–Foronda airport lies only 5km outside of the city centre and will allow you the easiest access to this wonderful place. The city is perched on the hilltops and was founded in 1181, although settlement here began in the early part of the century.
The most popular attractions that you can see here are the Casa del Coron, a Gothic style hall and tower which dates back to the 9th century. If you enjoy seeing the ancient structures then also visit the Torre de Los Anda which is a 9th century tower and fortified house. Another place of interest is the Archaeological Museum housed at the stunning 16th century mansion called Casa Armera de los Gabeo.
The cathedral and churches here are also brilliant works of art and date back to the 14th century. If you want to experience the history of Spain, then Vitoria will be one of the best places to do it. There is a Plaza in the centre of the town which has great shops and cafes once you need to take a break from all the sight seeing. There are also bars and restaurants where you can enjoy a hearty transitional meal.
